One last sing (for now)…
Last night the FLC kicked off our summer break in our own inimitable way - belting out some of our favourite songs (we were even granted ‘Jar of Hearts’ – IYKYK!), stifling giggles through a wobbly but energetic run-through of a new number, and rounding things off with a party.
There ain't no party like an FLC party...
Our Minister of Fun arrived with an array of balloons, inflatable guitars and a sparkly microphone (because, of course!). She clearly meant business and the choir was up for it. Fuelled by a fuddle that could have fed half of Fernwood, we tackled a quiz matching little-known facts to the right choir member. Who knew that we had a famous boxer’s high school girlfriend and house guests of Elton John and the Royal family in our midst?! All too quickly, the evening drew to a close. We said our goodbyes and drifted off into the summer night.
I drove home smiling, not unusual for a Wednesday night, but this time it was about more than just the fun of one choir session. I mentally totted up the highlights of the first half of the choir year. And boy, there have been plenty…
We've come a long, long way together...
We’ve exploded in numbers. Word of our general fabulousness (and I’m not just talking about the singing!) has clearly got round. Every new member has arrived slightly apprehensive, left smiling and kept coming back for more. To everyone who's thanked us for making you feel welcome – we're the lucky ones. Thank you for finding us. You're part of our crazy FLC family now, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Then there’s the music. Something pretty special has happened. If we were good last Christmas (and we were), we’ve unlocked a whole new level in recent months. Kev raised the bar, and we’ve risen to the occasion. Our beautiful harmonies have more depth, there’s more power and precision, and our confidence has skyrocketed.
Performances for friends and family, were followed by THAT evening at Southwell. Together, we sounded glorious and left the Minster audience spellbound. It was more than many of us believed we were capable of. It’s left us hungry for more performances, and thankfully, more are coming. People are starting to know who we are and want in on the action – the calendar is filling!
And lastly but by no means least, the fun, laughter and friendship that lies at the heart of this choir, and will always be the glue that holds us together, has only got stronger. We have celebrated individual and collective wins, and navigated life’s various challenges knowing there’s an unmatched support system behind us. It’s something about this group that I will never take for granted, and I know I am not alone in that.
That’s some achievement for 7 months. We head into summer proud of who we are and what we've built together.
Onto the next chapter...
6 weeks without choir therapy feels like a long time right now, but September will soon roll round and we’ll be back, refreshed and ready to get stuck into - dare I mention the C word in July? I’ll risk it - Christmas prep!
Enjoy your summer, and we'll see you on the other side. We're looking forward to it already...
Join us - you know you want to!

Lovely, celebratory report of the happenings of this fabulous choir. Growing from strength to strength, it’s a fine example of what can be achieved when well led, well focused and well organised. With singing at the heart of what we do, fun and laughter is the media that binds us together. It’s a rewarding experience being a member of such a happy group of people who delight in music, singing together and having fun.
