In the words of Sister Sledge (I’m showing my age!) at Fernwood Ladies Choir, ‘we are family’. One big choir family, and once you’re in, you’re in! It’s one of the unexpected, yet best perks of this choir, and makes it about so much more than just singing.
We do sing, have fun, and laugh a lot, but equally, we look out for each other when life throws curve balls. It’s friendship at its best – everyone genuinely cares. Between us we have a richly diverse set of skills and experiences to share, so there’s always someone to listen, help, advise or offer a hug! The point is, as part of our family, if you’re struggling you don’t need to do it alone.
For many of us, choir is a weekly refuge – timeout from everything else, just for us. A chance to be with friends who go out of their way to lift you when the going gets tough. Every week, at least one person posts in our group chat to say they’ve had a hard week but that being together, singing and having a giggle made all the difference. And that’s what Fernwood Ladies Choir is all about. It’s a sort of unpaid therapy, and who couldn’t use that now and again?!
So, to our current choir members, if you do find yourself struggling in any way, please let one of us know – anyone. Just a quick message. We want to be there for you in any way we can – that’s what family is for! And if you’re not already one of us but reading this thinking you could do with a bit of FLC love, come and join our wonderful, crazy family – we always have room for more!
